Ahmnedabad: An estimated 60 per cent of the 3.32-crore
voters on Thursday exercised their franchise in one of
the fiercely contested Assembly elections in Gujarat held
amidst tight security, nine months after the Godhra carnage
and subsequent communal violence and considered to be
a watershed in the countrys politics.

Excise
duty on cigarettes used for tests: SC
New Delhi: In a major judgment affecting the Rs
12,000 crore cigarette industry, the Supreme Court has
ruled that any stick of cigarette manufactured by a company,
even if used for testing purposes in the laboratory within
its own factory premises, is liable to excise duty.

LCA
enters advanced testing stage
New Delhi: The indigenously developed Light Combat
Aircraft is in an advanced stage of flight testing, said
Union defence minister George Fernandes. He added that
forty one flight tests had been successfully conducted
on two technology demonstrators of LCA.
