Tariff war intensifying - Cell users can look to `bonanza'
New Delhi: GSM cellular operators seem to have finally worked out strategy to counter the onslaught by Reliance Infocomm's limited mobility services.

In a bid to not only retain their customer base but also to make cellular services more attractive for the "potential" subscribers, leading operators are slated to make a joint announcement on a "host of new initiatives" they would be launching for the subscribers on Thursday.

Exports Grow 15.62% In Nov
New Delhi: The country’s exports clocked a 15.62 per cent growth during November 2002, over 50 per cent higher than the figure of 9.62 per cent recorded during October 2002. As a result, the April-November 2002 period registered an impressive 15.65 per cent growth. Reflecting a pick up in the industry, imports posted a substantial increase of 28.95 per cent during November 2002 and of 14.25 per cent during April-November 2002 over the respective corresponding periods in the last fiscal. This pushed up the trade deficit to $6.24 billion during April-November 2002.

Steel companies hike product prices
Mumbai: Leadingsteel companies such as Tata Steel, Essar Steel, Jindal Vijayanagar Steel Ltd (JVSL) and the public sector Steel Authority of India (SAIL) have hiked prices of steel products.
The increase in prices, with effect from January 1, ranged from Rs 300 to 700 per tonne, company officials said.

Diesel, petrol prices to be hiked today
Mumbai: Oil-marketing companies are expected to announce a hike in petrol and diesel prices on January 2.

Mr B.K. Chaturvedi, Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, told newspersons on the sidelines of a function here on Wednesday that petrol and diesel price would see a ``slight hike''. Rising international crude prices had led to the decision, he said.

IBP, Tata Steel, DRL bag corporate governance award
New Delhi: The Institute of Company Secretaries of India's (ICSI) second edition of the National Awards for excellence in Corporate Governance has been conferred on three companies - two in the private sector and one in the public sector.

While the Tata Steel Ltd (Chairman Mr Ratan Tata) and Dr Reddy's Laboratories Limited (Chairman Dr K Anji Reddy) have been adjudged the best governed companies in the private sector, IBP Co Ltd (Chairman Mr M.S. Ramachandran) bagged the award for the best-governed company in the public sector.
