Wagon, Chrysler goes back to future
Detroit: After four tumultuous years of existence,
DaimlerChrysler AG on Thursday will unveil its most important
effort yet at cross-cultural carmaking by using German
engineering to try to revive an American auto ideal --
the rear-wheel-drive family car.
The
Dodge Magnum, a wagon concept to be unveiled during previews
for the Los Angeles Auto Show, will go into production
in 2004 with a number of Mercedes parts. It's the largest
new vehicle programme developed to date during Chrysler
CEO Dieter Zetsche's term.

IBM
contributes $3.95 bn to pension
New York: International Business Machines Corp.
said on Tuesday that it had contributed $3.95 billion
in cash and stock to its U.S. pension plan, which declined
in value after the stock market bubble popped in 2001.
IBM said that it contributed $2.09 billion in cash, or
52.9 per cent of the total amount. It also contributed
24.03 million shares, worth $1.86 billion.

Washington: The State Department said on Wednesday
it had charged Hughes Electronics Corp. and Boeing Co.'s
Satellite Systems unit with illegally sharing sensitive
space technology with China in the 1990s that may have
helped Beijing fine-tune its missiles.
