Delhi: Finance minister Jaswant Singh assured the
states on Friday that the Central government would fully
compensate the revenue loss due to implementation of value
added tax in the first year of its introduction.

restrictions on garlic imports lifted

Delhi: The government has decided to remove quantitative
restrictions on imports of garlic with immediate effect
and a notification in this regard has been issued by the
director general of foreign trade, says an official release.

import items register 12 per cent growth in April-Nov

Delhi: Total imports of 300 sensitive tariff lines
(items) on which quantitative restrictions have been lifted
by the government, posted a 12 per cent growth during
April-November 2002 over the same period of 2001.
