trading activity. Bear dominance left the bulls with no
opportunity to recover during the day's trading. The market
sentiment reading of the tradable counters stands bearish.

Satyam
tumbles on weak numbers
Chennai: Satyam Computer Services yesterday fell
drastically along with sharp rise in the trading volumes
following the third quarter results that were below the
company and market expectations. Satyam closed 6.88 per
cent lower at Rs 242.25 with volumes of 91.86 lakh shares
on the BSE. On the NSE, the stock closed at Rs 242.20,
down 6.97 per cent with volumes of 2.02 crore shares.

UTI
picks up over 5 pc stake in BEML
Mumbai: Mutual Funds, including UTI, picked up
considerable stake in Bharat Earth Movers Ltd (BEML) during
the quarter ended December 30, 2002. Mutual Funds holdings
have now gone up to 10.31 per cent (December end) from
4.24 per cent (September end) last year.

Mumbai: The Securities and Exchange Board of India
yesterday restrained Hinduja TMT Ltd from dealing in securities
as a capital market intermediary for two years for violating
its regulations.

Rupee
at year-high; gilts fall
Mumbai: The rupee touched a new high against the
dollar for the second day in a row. The domestic unit
finished at a 12-month high of 47.8975/9000 against the
dollar on Thursday, higher by two paise over the previous
day's close of 47.9100/9150.
