Govt may limit tax sops to share buys, not transfers
New Delhi:
The 2003-04 Budget proposal to exempt income arising from transfer of all listed equity shares acquired on or after March 2003 and before March 1, 2004 from capital gains tax is under review. To prevent misuse of the exemption, the finance ministry is now looking at restricting
the tax exemption to purchase of shares from the stock exchange.

Fear of number pulls down Satyam
Chennai:
The counter of Satyam Computer has been on the downward move over the last few days. The fall is mainly due to heavy selling from institutional investors ahead of the company's fourth-quarter results. The stock was down 4.14 per cent at Rs 178.25, with a volume of 60.12 lakh shares on the BSE; on the NSE, it closed at Rs 178.05, down 4.27 per cent, with a volume of 1.70 crore shares.

Color Chem sees active trading
Chennai:
Color Chem Ltd (CCL) stock on Wednesday had the major bourses following announcement of an open offer on Monday by its foreign promoter and persons acting in concert. On Tuesday, the stock closed at 226.75 (Rs 219.25), after touching the day's peak at 229.50 (Rs 233.95) on the Bombay Stock Exchange. The traded quantity on the bourse was 55,688 (1.57 lakh) shares. On the National Stock Exchange, the counter clocked a volume of 1.82 lakh (3.53 lakh) shares.
