Rupert Murdoch is poised to finally crack the US satellite
television market with a deal to acquire a controlling
stake in Hughes Electronics and its industry-leading DirecTV
business for about $6.8bn, according to people close to

Philips to start making handset screens in H2
Tokyo: LG Philips LCD, the world's largest maker of
liquid crystal displays (LCDs), said on Wednesday it would
begin making small and mid-sized screens in the second
half of this year for cellphones and other devices. LG
Philips is a 50-50 venture between LG Electronics and
Philips Electronics.
