EU
eases entry norms for IT, engg personnel
New Delhi : In a move which may allow Indian software
and engineering professionals an easier entry into the
European market, the European Union has proposed to do
away with the controversial economic needs test requirement.
However, the test is to be replaced by restrictions on
the number of professionals allowed from a country in
a given time. In its proposals on services tabled at the
World Trade Organisation on Tuesday, the EU stated that
it will not make any offers in its public services sector
especially in the areas of health, social services, education
and audio-visual. This is disappointing for India as it
could have gained from the opening up of the health and
education sectors.
