Inflation
skids to 6.16 per cent
New Delhi: Heavy to moderate price decline in diesel,
petrol and food articles, including vegetables and fruits,
pushed the inflation down marginally to 6.16 per cent
for the week ended April 19, in official statistics though,
in reality, the prices of essential articles had gone
up due to the truckers' strike. Prices of mass consumption
primary articles fell, forcing the point-to-point wholesale
price index (WPI) to skid from the last week's level of
6.47 per cent. The index was mere 1.37 per cent in the
year-ago period.
