Intel
cuts Pentium 4 prices by up to 30 per cent
San Francisco: Intel Corp., the world's largest
maker of semiconductors, said on Monday it has cut prices
of some of its fastest Pentium 4 desktop processors by
as much as 30 per cent. The 2.8 gigahertz Pentium 4 is
now $262, 30 per cent less than before, and both the 2.66
gigahertz and 2.6 gigahertz versions now sell for $193,
a drop of 20 per cent in price, Intel said on its Website.
The Santa Clara, California, company regularly lowers
prices of its microprocessors in anticipation of the release
of faster models.
The cuts also typically result in price reductions on
personal computers, since microprocessors represent a
significant percentage of the cost of new PCs.

tries saying You've got mail in Spanish
New York: America Online is brushing up on its
Spanish as it tries to woo Hispanics to its service. The
Internet division of AOL Time Warner, often linked with
its "You've Got Mail" slogan, unveiled on Monday
its first national Spanish-language advertising campaign
targeted at the US Hispanic market. Hispanics are the
largest and fastest-growing minority group in the United
States.
The campaign, developed by Hispanic communications firm
Casanova Pendrill, includes radio, print and television
spots on Univision Communications, Telefutura and Galavision,
the company said in a statement. "AOL is committed
to enhancing features and services to better serve Latinos
who are online or planning to come online," Mary
Ann Donaghy, an AOL executive director, said in a statement.

Time Warner, ING sign marketing pact
New York: AOL Time Warner said on Monday it signed
a multimillion-dollar media and marketing pact with a
unit of ING Baring and unveiled a web site aimed at building
the bank's brand in the United States. The deal with ING's
US Financial Services Group reflects the strategy that
AOL's retooled Global Solutions Marketing group is taking
under its new chief Michael Kelly. By tapping AOL Time
Warner's different divisions, Kelly aims to create integrated
pacts for the media company. The companies declined to
comment on the terms of the deal, but a person familiar
with the situation said it was a three-year agreement
totaling about $30 million.

Motorola
reopens China office after SARS scare
Beijing: Motorola, the world's second-largest mobile
phone maker and China's biggest foreign investor, said
on Monday it had reopened its main office in Beijing and
a staff member who contracted SARS was recovering. About
1,000 employees returned to work after the office building
was cleaned and other employees completed a two-week quarantine,
spokeswoman Mary Lamb said."Everything is fully functioning
and back to normal," she said. The office in Beijing,
where SARS has struck harder than anywhere else in the
world, had been closed since April 29.

Dabhol
out of latest Enron restructuring
Washington: The Dabhol power plant in India is
not among the firms that Enron is putting under an umbrella
international energy company that it plans to set up.
The controversial Indian plant on which Enron spent some
$600 million is not among the 19 companies listed to go
under "InternationalCo", the temporary name
given to the new entity. The company's board of directors
decided last week to create a new international energy
company made up of the majority of its international energy
infrastructure businesses but minus Dabhol. Enron said
it was ending its effort to sell interests in those businesses.

India
urges OPEC to restructure crude pricing
Tehran: India has urged the Organisation of Petroleum
Exporting Countries including the UAE and Iran to restructure
the international pricing mechanism for crude oil. "We
are required to pay an additional two dollars per barrel
which we describe as the Asian premium. This raises our
energy costs and is a burden on developing economies,"
Petroleum Minister Ram Naik said on the sidelines of crucial
talks with Iran on cooperation in oil and gas sector.
"The oil exporting countries have accepted that there
is a problem but not solved the problem. They have maintained
that it may be sorted out during bilaterally at the time
of negotiations" he said
