Inflation falls below 6 per cent
New Delhi: Inflation continued to fall for the fourth consecutive week shedding another 0.13 per cent to 5.90 per cent for the week ended May 10, even as primary items became costlier. The change in general price line, measured by wholesale price index (WPI), fell in the latest reported week after it remained above 6 per cent for the last seven weeks. WPI, however, stood firm at the previous week’s figure of 172.4 as the indices of fuels and manufactured items remained unchanged. Mass consumption primary articles’ group index was up by 0.2 per cent to 180.2 points due to costlier food and non-food articles, even as minerals’ prices fell. The index was 169 in the previous year

Pakistan to discuss MFN issue today
Islamabad: Pakistan will hold a preliminary meeting on Monday to discuss the issue of granting the most favoured status nation (MFN) status to India, besides enhancing trade ties. A senior Pak official has said a preliminary meeting in this connection will be held on Monday at the foreign office. The main agenda of the meeting will be to discuss the pros and cons of a possible extension of the MFN status to India and its likely implications on the Pak economy, The Dawn reported on Sunday, quoting an official on Saturday. The meeting, which will be attended by senior officials from the ministries of defence, railways, sports and culture, interior, foreign office and commerce, will also work out a negotiation agenda for a possible resumption of dialogue between the two countries.
