New Delhi: The group of ministers (GoM) on the outstanding dues of public sector undertakings (PSUs) will meet today to decide on the liquidation of dues worth Rs 2,266 crore. The dues have been increased by more than Rs 200 crore in a year. The GoM, which is headed by Planning Commission deputy chairman K C Pant, consists of Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Subodh Mohite, Textiles Minister Shahnawaz Hussain and Coal Minister Karia Munda. At the last GoM meet on 23 January, the department of public enterprises was directed to take up the matter with the administrative ministries to expedite the payment of statutory dues within 45 days in cases where the PSUs had to pay the dues out of their current revenues. The PSUs, which did not have current revenues to meet this expenditure but had surplus assets, were to fix a time-frame for the payment by disposing their assets. For the rest of the PSUs that did not have either current surplus or saleable assets were to prepare revival or closure plans to the ministry of finance.
