Reddy is new RBI Governor for next five years

Delhi:
Dr Y. Venugopal Reddy has been appointed as the new governor
of the Reserve bank of India for the next five years.
Dr
Reddy is at present India's executive director to the
International monetary fund (IMF). He will assume office
from the day the present governor, Dr Bimal Jalan, leaves.
Dr
Reddy belongs to the 1964 batch of the Indian Administrative
Service (IAS), and has earlier held the position of deputy
governor of the RBI and looking after monetary policy
and internal debt management sections before moving over
to the IMF in August 2002. Prior to this, he had a stint
at the ministry of finance as the secretary, banking.
Dr
Reddy's candidature got preference over the claims of
two other contenders for the governor's post - Dr Vijay
Kelkar, currently advisor to the finance minister, Mr
Jaswant Singh and Dr S. Narayan, a top bureaucrat at the
prime minister's office and also the former finance secretary.

Ranjana
Kumar appointed Nabard chief
Mumbai:
Ms Ranjana Kumar, the present chairperson and managing
director of Indian Bank, is set to take charge as chairperson
of Nabard. Ms Kumar, whose appointment will soon be formalized,
will be the first lady to head the apex agriculture refinance
institution. Her tenure will last for over two years.
She takes over Nabard at a time when Nabard is getting
into direct lending via co-financing with various banks.
