Hindujas acquire Philippine call centre unit
Bangalore: The Hinduja group has bought a 930-seat call centre unit — Customer Contact Centre Inc, for an undisclosed sum from Manila-based Benpres Holdings Corp.
Benpres, in a statement to the Philippines Stock Exchange, disclosed that it had sold its call-centre unit to Hinduja Group. The Hinduja Group is likely to make an announcement on Monday.

Anil Nanda to retain his stake in Escorts
New Delhi: Anil Nanda will not sell his stake in Escorts Ltd, despite having differences with his elder brother Rajan Nanda over the restructuring of the group. Promoters hold 35 per cent stake in Escorts, a Rs 1,000-crore company.

Dr Reddy's to sell Pondy unit
Hyderabad: DR Reddy's Laboratories Ltd, the city-based pharmaceutical giant listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), proposes to dispose of its manufacturing unit located at Thiruvandarkoil near Mannvipet in Pondicherry.

In a notice convening 19th annual general meeting on August 25, the company informed shareholders that its unit for the manufacturing of formulations in Pondicherry contributed only nine per cent of the company's total sales during the last fiscal year.

Pantaloon in retail expansion project
Mumbai: Pantaloon Retail India Ltd is to invest Rs 100 crore in the next two years for expanding its retail stores across the country.

Under the proposed expansion plan, the company is planning to lease out additional 9 lakh sq.ft. area and reach the total leased area to 15 lakh sq.ft. by June 2005 for its retail stores under the brands - Pantaloon, Big Bazaar and Food Bazaar.

West Coast Paper declares 85% dividend
Kolkata: The West Coast Paper Mills Ltd of the S.K. Bangur group has declared a dividend of 85 per cent per Rs 10 share for the fiscal 2002-03 against 65 per cent in the previous year. The percentage of dividend pay out is claimed to the highest in the paper industry.

Kesoram requests exemption from electricity duty
Hyderabad: Kesoram Cement has appealed to the Andhra Pradesh Government to exempt it from the levy of electricity duty on generation of power from its captive power plant, as it had become a "major burden" for the power-intensive industry.

The AP Government issued an ordinance on July 16imposing a duty of 25 paise per unit of power generated by captive power plants.

Adlabs Q1 net at Rs 3.8 crore
Mumbai: Adlabs Films Ltd has posted a net profit of Rs 3.8 crore for the first quarter ended June 30, 2003 as against Rs 5.48 crore in the year-ago period.

Total income has decreased to Rs 18.49 crore from Rs 22.03 crore.
