India
for phased removal of agri subsidies
New Delhi: India has said that developing countries
will press for phased elimination of farm subsidies that
hinder market access. Commerce and Industry Minister Arun
Jaitley has said that India does not expect significant
progress in non-agricultural market access negotiations
at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) ministerial meeting
in Cancun in light of the proposal made by the US, Canada
and the European Union. "The proposal is loaded against
the interest of developing countries."
