J Jain to head GIC African subsidiary
Bangalore: The General Insurance Corporation of
India (GIC) has appointed a new chief executive officer,
I J Jain, for its subsidiary company, KenIndia Assurance
Company Ltd, operating in the African region. Jain, currently
general manager of Oriental Insurance Company, will head
the African operations. This is in place of R S Bedi,
who has attained superannuation.
KenIndia
is head quartered in Nairobi, Kenya. The CEO for KenIndia
is normally an appointee from one of the four public sector
insurance companies in the country KenIndia was created
in 1978 after merger of all the East African operations
of all the Indian general and life insurance companies.
The company does both general insurance as well life business
in the African region and is capitalised at around 300
million Kenyan Shillings (Ksh) or about $3.92 million.
