SC
puts the brakes on HPCL, BPCL sell-off
New Delhi: The ground-rules for public sector disinvestment
have been re-written with the Supreme Court on Tuesday
ruling that the Centre will have to take approval from
Parliament for selling stakes in the two PSU oil majors

Verdict
will have far-reaching impact: Shourie
New Delh: THE Government has said that the Supreme
Court verdict on HPCL and BPCL would have far-reaching
consequences for the sell-off process.
"It
will have far-reaching consequences not only for disinvestment
in these two PSUs but in other matters also," the
Union Disinvestment Minister, Mr Arun Shourie, said from
Berlin, Germany where he is on an official visit. There
may be other PSUs not only at the Central level but also
at the State level which were created through Legislative
Acts and whose disinvestment would become ticklish in
the light of the apex court judgment, Mr Shourie stated.
