Rupee
rise continues
Mumbai: The rupee gained 1.01 per cent to end the
week at a new three-year closing high of 45.39/40 per
dollar on strong inflows from foreign funds investing
in domestic shares and sales by exporters.
The
benchmark 10-year 7.27 per cent gilt hit a lifetime low
of 5.138 per cent on 1 October as the RBI, on 29 September,
announced that the government will raise only Rs 25,000
crore as against the budgeted Rs 59,888 crore in the second
half of 2003-04. This security finished the week at an
yield of 5.156 per cent (Rs 116.25) as against Monday's
closing level of 5.242 per cent (Rs 115.52).
