Hindustan Motor witnesses huge volumes
Kolkata: The Hindustan Motor stock continued to witness huge volumes on major stock exchanges. The stock has been enjoying increased attention from a section of brokers and traders as speculative news buzzed around the counter. The company had entered into agreements with Ford India Ltd and General Motors India Ltd for supply of engines and transmissions.

The stock recorded a volume of 1.27 crore shares on the NSE and around 71 lakh shares on the BSE. The stock price, after touching a day's high at Rs 19.39, finished 3.37 per cent lower than the previous closing on the BSE. About 31.28 per cent of total traded shares on the NSE was presented for delivery.

IPO talks come to Andhra Bank's rescue
Mumbai: The stock market grapevine was abuzz with news that the Hyderabad-based Andhra Bank is planning a public offer of equity. The speculation drove a number of investors to the counter who lapped up the stock. A couple of mutual funds were reported to have picked up the bank's shares in large quantities.

While the grapevine even speculated on the premium that the bank would charge on its shares, one source said the issue is quite premature and no details worked out yet. The Andhra Bank share closed at Rs 45.10, which was Rs 3 or more than 7 per cent higher than its previous close on the BSE. Trading volume on the exchange climbed to a little over 3.7 lakh shares. The volume stood at about 26 lakh shares on the NSE.

Balaji Telefilms hopeful
Mumbai: Balaji Telefilms Ltd continued its upturn on the stock exchanges primarily buoyed by reports of a hike in the realisations on the company's programmes by leading broadcasters. alaji's shares ended the day at Rs 84.30, up 8.35 per cent with around 8.91 lakh shares traded on the BSE. On the NSE, the stock ended the day at Rs 83.75, up 7.93 per cent and 23.63 lakh shares were traded.

Rupee up 5 paise
Mumbai: The rupee closed around five paise stronger on Friday ending at 45.84/85 to the dollar compared to Thursday's closing price of 45.8850/89.
