companies buck the Q4 trend, may hire in Q1 itself
New York: US employers were more optimistic about
hiring staff in the year's first quarter than in the fourth
quarter for the first time in five years, a survey said
on Tuesday, offering hope to job seekers. Staffing company
Manpower said employers in nine of the 10 sectors surveyed
expect to offer more jobs in the first quarter of '04
than in the final period of '03.

Zander as its chairman and chief executive.

McDonald's
to stick to burgers, fries
Chicago: McDonald's on Monday gave Wall Street
its latest signal that it is sticking to the basics of
selling hamburgers and fries, announcing that it will
sell its Donatos pizza business and curb the growth of
its other non-hamburger brands.
The world's largest restaurant company said it will sell
its 182 US Donatos restaurants back to original owner
Jim Grote for an undisclosed amount. Grote, who founded
the Columbus, Ohio-based chain some 40 years ago, sold
it to McDonald's in 1999.

India today said that three of the four Singapore issues
should be dropped from the work programme of World Trade
Organisation.
