Government
says no to rate cut
New Delhi: The central government is not planning
any review of the administered interest rate regime now,
says Expenditure Secretary D Swarup. Talking to reporters
he said: "At the moment there is no proposal to review
the rates."
This
comes at a significant time as Finance Minister Jaswant
Singh will present a vote-on-account for the first four
months of 2004-05, where he is expected to outline the
fiscal position of the central government.

Mini-Exim
policy to be announced today
New Delhi: With a double-digit export growth looming
large over the nation, the Indian government may announce
a mini-Exim Policy today with a focus on reduction of
transaction costs and sops for sectors like textiles,
where quotas will be phased out from January 2005.
Commerce
Minister Arun Jaitley updated the Prime Minister's Office
on Tuesday evening about the export scenario and the policy
stance of the government.
