Kochi Port shortlists nine for Vallarpadam
New Delhi: The Kochi Port Trust has shortlisted nine companies for its international container transshipment terminal at Vallarpadam. The shortlisted companies include Maersk, P&O, Dubai Port Customs, PSA, Adani Exports, International Container Terminal Service, Larsen & Toubro, a consortium of IL&FS and Punj Lloyd, and another consortium led by ACT Shipping. P&O had emerged as the sole bidder when the project was last put up for bidding in 1999. But the bid was rejected on fears of monopoly as P&O operated other container terminals on the east coast.

The project involves operation of the existing Rajiv Gandhi Container Terminal (RGCT) and construction of a transshipment terminal at Vallarpadam island at an estimated cost of Rs 1,600 crore. The project has also been made part of the Rs one lakh crore Sagar Mala project.
