Madrid serial blasts kills over a hundred
Madrid:
About 190 people have been killed and over 1,000 injured
in a series of bomb explosions in crowded commuter trains
in the Spanish capital, Madrid, during the commuter rush
hour this morning. The toll is expected to rise further.
A total of 13 bombs were planted, of which 10 went off
while three others were detonated by the police.
While the Spanish Government has accused the Basque separatist
organization, ETA, for the attacks, Batasuna, the ETA's
political wing, has denied the charges outright. The ETA,
for its part, blamed "Arab resistance" for the
attack. Spain had been one of the earliest and most prominent
endorsers of the recent US led campaign against Iraq.
