Sensex in bear grip
The BSE Sensex closed the day on 5414.94, down 120.75 points or 2.18 per cent. The Nifty closed the day at 1716.65 points down by 1.90 per cent.
HDFC gained 1.72 per cent on the BSE
HLL gained 0.56 per cent at Rs 144.80 on the BSE
Indian Overseas Bank touched a new high of Rs 49.95 and closed at Rs 48.20
Mercator Lines rose to Rs 259.50 but closed at Rs 255.3.
HCL Infosys declined by more than 6 per cent to Rs 714.6
Infosys down by 2.14 per cent to Rs 4,924.90
Aventis Pharma gained about 3.59 per cent to Rs 667.85.
Indraprastha Gas closed at Rs 80.45, down 50 per cent from its high of Rs 165
GAIL India closed the day with gains at Rs 210.95.
Chennai Petroleum gained Rs 2.25 to end the day at Rs 115.60
Geojit Securities rose by about 3 per cent (Rs 2.50) to Rs 70.50
Cummins ended the day at Rs 203.70
Patni Computers closed at Rs 212.35, below the offer price of Rs 230.
TV Today closed at Rs 120.50
Four Software closed at Rs 22.40,now below its offer price
Gains: Dr Reddy, MphasiS BFL, Digital GlobalSoft, Dr Reddy, Matrix Labs, Glaxo SmithKline Pharma
Declines: Wipro, Satyam Computers, IOC, HPCL, BPCL, Bongaigaon Refineries

Goldman Sachs picks up stake in Pantaloon
Kolkata: Goldman Sachs Investments (Mauritius) has acquired 3.35 per cent stake in Pantaloon Retail (India) and consequently its holding in the company has gone up to 8.05 per cent.
Goldman bought over the entire stake of Lloyd George Investment Management (Bermuda) at a price of Rs 237 per share on March 16. The promoters now held 39.53 per cent.

SEBI clears Data Access IPO
Mumbai: The Securities and Exchange Board of India has cleared the Rs 50-crore initial public offer of Data Access, according to a news release from the company. The IPO, which is to be made entirely through the book-building route, will comprise fresh issue of 50 million equity shares of face value of Rs 10 each. The company will be listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange. The company has been in operations in international long distance telephony and claims over 30 per cent of the market.
