Saregama's second venture into films
Kolkata: RPG Enterprises will fund the group's foray into the film business. The estimated Rs.9 crore required for the productions lined up for the current year, will be provided by the parent company.The first venture of this subsidiary - a Hindi film called Tumsa Nahin Dekha with music by Richard Clayderman and Nadeem Shravan - was already on the floors and would be released in early 2004-05. This movie is directed by Anurag Basu. With the revival of the Bengali film industry, Saregama Films is also looking into this area and will put a creative team into place by April of this year.

Cipla board to split stock
Mumbai: CIPLA Ltd has informed the BSE that its board has approved the sub-division in the face value of equity shares of the company from Rs.10 to Rs.2 This was decided at a board meeting on Tuesday. The company, however, said that the decision would be subject to the approval of members at the extra-ordinary general meeting of the company to be held on April 21.

Indian Rayon to meet on conversion of debentures
Mumbai: Indian Rayon and Industries Ltd has informed the Bombay Stock Exchange that a meeting of the Investors Relations and Finance Committee of the company's board of directors will be held on March 31, to consider and approve the allotment of equity shares against conversion of zero-interest secured fully convertible debentures and against detachable warrants kept in abeyance pursuant to Section 206A of the Companies Act 1956.

Welspun Gujarat to increase capacity
Mumbai: Welspun Gujarat Stahl Rohren, the saw pipes manufacturer plans to add capacities of around 5 lakh tonnes by the end of this calendar year, and intends to invest Rs.200 crore in setting up a new manufacturing unit in Gujarat.Welspun Gujarat, an Indo-German joint venture, has also executed the Dahej-Vijaipur pipeline projects for Gail India, amongst others.

UralAZ to locate at Haldia
Kolkata: UralAZ of Russia, a cross-country and offroad commercial vehicle supplier, has selected Haldia in West Bengal as its base for manufacturing latest commercial vehicles. A joint venture company has been established under the name of Ural India Ltd (UIL) to undertake this Rs 500-crore project.

The Haldia project will assemble and manufacture high capacity (10 tonne to 45 tonne) medium and heavy-duty (230 horse power to 440 horse power) commercial vehicles having internationally accepted performance standards from cross-country, off-road and on-road applications. The vehicles will have many features hitherto not available on vehicles produced in India.UralAZ, a part of 'Rusprom' Auto Group, has joint venture companies in China and Egypt and alliances in Europe.

Dishman Pharma IPO at Rs.155-175
Ahmedabad: Dishman Pharmaceuticals and Chemicals Ltd (DPCL) has kept its price band at Rs.155-175 per equity share for its forthcoming IPO. The issue opens on March 29 and closes on April 7, and will seek to raise Rs.53 crore-60 crore.The Ahmedabad-based Dishman is a specialised chemicals manufacturer of quats (ammonium and phosphonium quaternary compounds) and also contract manufactures APIs/ intermediates for overseas clients. Its clients include companies such as DuPont, Dow Chemicals, Mobil and Solvay.

Vital Link to restructure its services
Pune: The Pune-based Vital Link Outsourcing, an offshore service bureau specialising in electronic data and document conversion, is on the lookout for space to set up its second facility. This is over and above its single shift 30-seat delivery centre in Pune. It plans to increase its number of seats to 200 by the end of 2004.

The company processes approximately 10,000 medical forms, 20,000 market survey coupons, 30,000 subscription fulfilment forms and 10,000 driver logs daily for its US clients alone. It caters to clientele for similar and other services in Belgium, the Netherlands and Italy. The company launched its Pune operations in July 2002.The company uses custom as well as customised software to encode, enter and verify data.

Singapore retailer uses Satyam tool
Hyderabad: Satyam Computer Services Ltd, and Oracle Singapore, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Oracle Corporation, have announced that NTUC FairPrice, Singapore's leading supermarket retailer, has gone live on the Oracle E-Business Suite.
This project utilises Oracle E-Business Suite 11i capabilities to integrate FairPrice's separate back-room finance systems into a unified, modern billing, accounts and cash management software platform.Hitherto, FairPrice's accounts were kept in separate systems, and information consolidation was done manually.

Levi's launch the 501 range
Mumbai: Levi's has launched its 501 range of jeans in Mumbai. The brand is being relaunched worldwide with the line `an ounce of steel where it counts'. The company has roped in Cazle Hendricks, a South African athlete, as the star of its Indian campaign. Hendricks lost his left arm in an accident in 2000. According to the company, more than 2.5 billion Levi's 501 jeans have been sold worldwide and in India they will initially be sold in the top six cities, and will be priced between Rs.1, 601 and Rs.3, 001.
