Railways pact cements Indo-Sudanese trade and relations
Kolkata: Participating in an interactive session on `Indo-Sudanese Relations', organised by the Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BNCCI) here, Mr Abdal Mahmood Abdal Haleem Mohammad, Ambassador of Sudan in India, said an agreement on a line of credit has already been agreed to by the Government of India for a railway project, which involves locomotives, wagons, the construction of new lines and other rail infrastructure related work. He said a preliminary agreement for a credit of $10 million by the Indian side, for equipment purchase, has already been signed.

Citing the huge potential for closer economic cooperation that existed between Sudan, a part of the West Asia North Africa (WANA) region and India, the Ambassador said Sudan is now inviting investments in information technology, agri-processing, human resource development and pharmaceuticals.The Ambassador also said that India has helped the Sudanese sugar industry in a big way, with the setting up of the White Nile Sugar Factory, which is equipped to produce four lakh tonnes of sugar annually. The Ambassador described the sugar factory as a major success story of Sudanese industry.The India-Sudan bilateral trade during 2002-03 was $350 million, with India enjoying a favourable balance.

Harvard Business School to open research centre
New Delhi: The Harvard Business School (HBS) has announced its plans to set-up a research centre in India, which will be located either in Mumbai or Bangalore. The centre will focus on enhancing the institution's understanding about India, and would be in line with such centres already operating in Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Buenos Aires and California.
