Suri: India-China trade at $20 b in 6 years
New Delhi: Addressing a meeting organised by the
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here, India's Ambassador
to China, Nalin Suri said that India's trade with China
touched $1.87 billion during the first two months of this
fiscal and could achieve $20 billion by 2010. The Ambassador
said that there were huge opportunities in the Chinese
market, which the Indian industry must tap.

IIM-A
to initiate talks with HRD Ministry
Ahmedabad: The IIM Ahmedabad (IIM-A) society has
unanimously resolved to initiate a dialogue with the Human
Resources Development Ministry at the earliest. IIM-A
Board Chairman, and Infosys chief, N R Narayan Murthy,
also attended the meeting, and talked about creating a
positive atmosphere for discussions.
The
IIM-A society directed its board of directors to develop
a scholarship grant programme in response to the ministry's
arguments that the IIM fee structure was a deterrent for
economically backward students.Murthy
said that the society had empowered the board to take
legal action in the fee-cut case, but only as a last resort
if talks with the Centre failed.

India
to host ITCB meet
New Delhi: New Delhi will host the annual session
of the International Textiles and Clothing Bureau (ITCB),
an intergovernmental organisation comprising exporters
from developing countries.The three-day event, beginning
on April 5 here, is dedicated to securing the elimination
of discriminatory restrictions and protectionism directed
against its members' exports.
ITCB currently has 25 permanent members, including India,
China, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Mexico, Indonesia,
Hong Kong, China and Brazil.The New Delhi session assumes
significance as there are just eight months left for the
advent of the quota-free regime beginning on January 1,
2005. The last two meetings of the ITCB were held in Cairo
in 2003 and Vietnam in 2002.
