Tata Teleservices extends support to Childline
New Delhi:
Tata Teleservices has announced that it would be extending support to Childline India Foundation, an NGO that works for the betterment of street children.
According to a company press release, 25 per cent of the company's net revenue generated in April from its global SMS service would be donated to Childline, and the funds would be used to look after needy children and improve the quality of their life.

Now its Nepal and Bangladesh for Jet and Sahara
New Delhi: The government has given Jet Airways and Air Sahara the go-ahead to fly to Nepal and Bangladesh. The move comes after the Union Cabinet gave its nod a couple of months ago to domestic carriers to operate in SAARC countries.

Zuari Ind gets Rs 66-cr I-T notice
Mumbai: Zuari Industries Ltd has informed the BSE that the company has received Notice of Demand under Section 156 of the Income Tax Act, 1961 for a sum of Rs 66.02 crore for the assessment year 2001-2002.
The company said it has decided to file an appeal before the appropriate authorities to challenge the said demand.

Lupin launches SupraxO in the US
Mumbai: Lupin Ltd's anti-infective product SupraxÒ, or cefixime oral suspension, was launched in the US market today. Announcing the launch, the company said that another five products were expected to hit the US market in about 15 to 18 months. Lupin had licensed the Suprax trademark from Wyeth, after the latter had stopped marketing the product in March 2003.

The company hopes to clock about $50 million from sales, the same figure that Suprax had clocked when Wyeth had quit marketing the product. The paediatric segment offers an uncluttered market and is estimated to be worth $8 billion. The market for branded anti-infectives' oral suspension is estimated to be over $1 billion.

IT firm Keane to expand operations in India
New Delhi: IT outsourcing firm Keane Inc has announced that it would invest an additional $25 million in expanding its BPO and IT service operations in India, and triple headcount to 5,000 in the next two years. The company has 1,600 professionals in India, of which 1,300 are in application space and the rest in BPO. The number is likely to rise to 5,000 in two years, of which 3,000 will be in application development and management and 2,000 in BPO. While the company would make additional investments of $25 million towards organic growth, it was also eyeing acquisitions in India, both in the application and BPO space.

Hutch to expand in mobile gaming market
Hyderabad: Hutch has announced plans to expand the mobile gaming market in India through an offering of over 250 Java-based mobile games, and an exclusive development alliance with the gaming company, Mauj. About 1,20,000 mobile games are downloaded every month by Hutch users, marking a phenomenal 50-fold increase from an average of 2,200 mobile game downloads in February last year. This growth is expected to increase further with the increasing penetration of GPRS handsets and applications.

Kejian to enter mobile phone market with Rajgarhias
New Delhi: The Chinese mobile phone maker, Kejian, has announced that it would sell its products in India through a marketing tie-up with the Rajgarhia Group. According to a company release, the Rajgarhias have formed a new company, Trust Telecom Technologies Ltd, to market Kejian's GSM handsets in India and in the SAARC countries.

Microsoft initiates $20 m IT education programme
New Delhi: Microsoft Corporation India Ltd has announced the implementation of its $20-million IT education programme for schools in India and an agreement with the Orissa Government for a programme to push local language computing in the State.

As part of the programme, Microsoft will provide free software upgrades to computers donated to schools, institute scholarships and set up Microsoft IT Academies in different States. The first IT Academy had already come up at Dehradun in Uttaranchal and the second one was ready for commissioning in Hyderabad. The company is planning to set up similar centres in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Orissa and Madhya Pradesh.

New air-cooler from Symphony
Chennai: The Ahmedbad-based Symphony Comfort Systems Ltd has launched an air-cooler 'h!Cool' at an introductory price of Rs 4,990. Symphony Comfort Systems Ltd says that the company has introduced 11 new models in 14 months and expects to end this year with a turnover of Rs 75 crore. The company is the largest manufacturer of air-coolers in the world, and exports to 30 different countries under its own brand name.
