Volkswagen recalls Passat and Audi A4 and A8 models
Wolfsburg: Volkswagen is recalling some 8,70,000 Passat models built between 1996 and 1999 as well as Audi A4 and A8 models built between 1994 and 1999 and Audi A6 models built between 1997 and 1999, to check front axles for a potential problem.

Volkswagen has said that the recall was to examine rubber "boots" (casings) on the front axles, which can get damaged and in some cases cause failure of the bearing arm.
