Bhiwani: Here come the sons
Bhiwani: The Bhiwani constituency in Haryana is
witnessing the sons of three former chief ministers trying
their electoral luck, with the sons of Om Prakash Chautala,
Bhajan Lal and Bansi Lal in the fray. While
Chautala's son Ajay Chautala is contesting on an INLD
ticket, Bhajan Lal's son Kuldeep Singh Bishnoi is the
Congress candidate from Bhiwani, and Bansi Lal's son Surinder
Singh is fighting for the HVP.
Apart
from being his fathers son Ajay Chautala has also completed
his first term as MP. Kuldeep Singh Bishnoi was an MLA
in 1998 from Adampur, and is likely to cash in on the
community advantage, as the entire Bishnoi community is
expected to root for him. Surinder Singh, has the advantage
of contesting from his father, Bansi Lal's strong hold.

Phase: Exit Polls continue their merry-go-round
New Delhi: With voting completed in the third phase
of the General elections 2004, the NDTV-Indian Express
Exit Poll projects a virtual sweep for the BJP in this
phase with as many as 55 seats out of the 83. The Congress
and its allies are projected to be way behind at 15 seats
and others at 13.
According to the exit poll, the national projection for
the Lok Sabha is that the BJP is expected to get between
245- 265 seats, just short of the magic half way mark
of 272 while the Congress is projected to get between
185-205 seats. And
in Uttar Pradesh, the state that could be the deciding
factor in case of a hung Parliament, the exit poll indicates
that the BJP and its allies will get 31 out of 80 seats.
The Samajwadi Party will get 22 seats, the BSP 16 seats
and the Congress 10 seats.

Nasscom:
R&D outsourcing set for rapid growth
Hyderabad: According to recent studies including
those of the National Association of Software and Services
Companies (Nasscom), the R&D activity in an outsourcing
mode is set to grow as the IP protection takes centre
stage for software services and products within India.
A recent study of Nasscom and KPMG has stated that R&D
outsourcing to India has gone up over the years in areas
such as IT, pharmaceuticals, bio-technology and engineering
and design services. The research study published by Nasscom
points out that within the embedded systems segment the
R&D outsourcing will account for revenues of around
$1.5 billion by 2004-05. Already, Indian business process
outsourcing (BPO) services companies are training their
attention on the development of embedded system tools
such as microcontrollers and design of hardware and software.
In the case of VLSI (very large system integration) and
chip design market, the potential is estimated to grow
into a $808 million by 2005. Further, research initiatives
in basic electronics, digital electronics, VLSI design,
circuit layout and design, verification and logic design
will assume additional importance over the next few years.
Information security and areas such as cryptography, biometrics
and security auditing are also expected to grow. Areas
such as high performance computing, wireless and mobile
applications, nanotechnology and DSP (digital signal processing)
are set to witness more activity over the next few years.

FDI proposals cleared
New Delhi: The Government has cleared 24 FDI proposals
involving FDI worth Rs 204.01 crore. The proposals include
the US-based Citicorp International Finance Corporation's
plan to invest Rs 126.54 crore in the Hyderabad-based
IVRCL Infrastructures & Projects Ltd and the Mauritius-based
Chrys Capital's plan to undertake infrastructure services
and turnkey solutions on water transportation. Other approvals
include HFCL Infotel Ltd's plan to bring in FDI worth
Rs 48.70 crore from NRIs, FIIs and other investors. The
Singapore-based Keppel Land Asia Pvt Ltd have been allowed
to acquire 51 per cent stake in the Bangalore-based Puravankara
Projects Ltd for the development of an integrated township.
