NDTV-Express poll: Now Congress is feeling good
New Delhi: The projections of the NDTV Indian Express opinion poll for the fourth phase, in which a total of 181 seats in 12 states go to the polls on Monday, are that the NDA looks set to corner 67 seats, a loss of 16 seats from last time. The Congress on the other hand has gained 16 seats to get to 68 and the other parties are slated to get the balance 46 seats.

The poll says that in Tamil Nadu the BJP AIADMK alliance will get just 9 of the 39 seats in the states while the Congress DMK front is expected to get 30 seats. In Delhi, the NDA are losing four seats to the Congress and are projected to get only three seats.As per the poll in West Bengal the Left Front can hope to get 29 of the 42 seats in the state, while Mamata Banerjee's Trinimol Congress is projected to get 10 seats. The Congress is expected to pick up the remaining three seats.

In Haryana the Congress may pick up 6 seats while the BJP is projected to get only two seats. The other parties will account for 2 seats. The NDA had swept Haryana last time getting all 10 seats in the state. In UP, the state that sends the largest no of MP'S to Parliament, the BJP is gaining 3 seats to push up its tally to 31. Mulayam Singh Yadav's Samajwadi Party (SP) on the other hand is projected to lose 5 seats it held last time to end up with 21 seats. The Congress is expected to drop a seat, giving it 10 seats. The projections for the BSP give it 17 seats, a gain of 3 seats for them.

In Punjab, the BJP Akali combine can expect to pick up10 seats, a gain of 7 seats for them, while the Congress tally will come down by 7 seats to 3. The final picture according to the NDTV - Indian Express opinion poll, gives the NDA anything between 240-260 seats, while the Congress is projected to get between 190 and 210 seats. The other parties are expected to account for 90 to a 110 seats out of the 543 seats in Parliament.

CII initiative: McKinsey to study potential of Eastern States
Kolkata: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Eastern Region (ER) has commissioned McKinsey to carry out a study to map out the strength and the minerals, metals and manufacturing potential of the Eastern States. The study will also highlight the mineral-market size, matching it with the demand pattern.

The Confederation has adopted the theme `Competitiveness through 3M - Minerals, Metals and Manufacturing' for the States in the East during 2004-05. It has set up a Steering Committee consisting of senior representatives of major companies in the region, such as Tata Steel, NMDC, SAIL and Indal, to work in co-ordination with McKinsey's on the 3M study. Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Orissa and certain tracts of West Bengal are rich in mineral wealth in the east. The McKinsey study, is expected to be ready within the next six months or so.
