Business Objects to partner with Wipro

TRAI asks for roll back on roaming tariff hike
New Delhi: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has said that the roaming tariff implemented by some operators for various distance slabs exceeds the prescribed limit and are also inconsistent with the provisions of Telecom Tariff Order and IUC (Interconnect User Charges) regulations.

TRAI has directed that the total roaming charges per minute "shall not exceed the currently applicable ceiling of Rs 3.45 (Rs 3 plus 15 per cent surcharge) plus IUC charges as provided in the 18th amendment to the Telecom Tariff Order."

TRAI has informed all the mobile operators that the roaming tariffs that are above the prescribed ceilings shall have to be reduced. The regulator also asked the operators to immediately restructure their roaming tariffs and furnish their compliance report along with the revised roaming tariffs by Thursday.

BSNL to invest Rs 1,270 crore in Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) will invest approximately Rs 1,270 crore in expanding its telecommunications infrastructure in the state during the current financial year. These funds would be used to finance the expansion of the company's landline and cellular networks in the state.

The company plans to invest approximately Rs 500 crore in augmenting its WLL network in Kerala. This includes the addition of 500,000 new lines and the establishment of 900 base transceiver stations across the State.

BSNL also plans to invest Rs 510 crore, in two phases, during the current financial year to expand its cellular telephone network in Kerala. While the first phase of this project will result in the addition of 420,000 new cellular lines, the second phase envisages the addition of 950,000 new cellular lines.

Simultaneously, the company plans to add over 1,400 base transceiver stations across the State. Once this project is complete, the company expects its cellular network to cover every part of Kerala.

As part of its efforts to offer more services to customers, the company has introduced a voice mail service. The offering, which is called the `answering machine service', will be available to customers free of cost. The company has also `soft-launched' a free short messaging service (SMS) on landlines. This facility is available to all customers, but requires a special telephone instrument that facilitates SMS.

Bangalore: Infosys Technologies Ltd has announced the availability of a new solution, Item Data Integrity (IDI) that enables retail companies and their partners to reduce time to market associated with the introduction of new products and promotions.

It helps lower item administration costs, reduce operating errors and improve vendor collaboration, the company has said in a notice to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

Whirlpool launches Ice Magic refrigerators
New Delhi: Whirlpool has announced the launch of its Ice Magic range of frost-free refrigerators with 'sixth sense' technology in the country. Available in 220, 250, 285, 350, 400 and 450 litres capacities, the series is priced between Rs 11,500 and Rs 37,500.

The sixth sense technology enables the refrigerator to sense the change in cooling caused by frequent door opening and load and it then increases the amount of cold air circulated to ensure perfect cooling.
