Sonia to be sworn in tomorrow
New Delhi: Congress chief Sonia Gandhi is scheduled to meet President A P J Kalam today after his invitation to her as the leader of the largest political formation. The discussions are expected to lead to her swearing-in as Prime Minister on Wednesday.

Gandhi, 57, will head a multi-party coalition that has been named the United Progressive Alliance (UPA).

Along with the Left parties, and two other post-poll allies, the UPA will have 318 MPs in the 543-member Lok Sabha, 46 more than the required 272 majority.

The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) has said that it would support the government from outside, ruling out participation in the government.

Swadeshis to boycott Videshi
New Delhi: After ushering in the raj of videshi companies in the country like never before, BJP president M. Venkaiah Naidu has said that the BJP has decided to boycott the swearing-in ceremony of Sonia Gandhi on account of her foreign origin. While Vajpayee' s aides have been reported in the media as saying that he would be attending the ceremony in his capacity as an ex-prime minister.

Sushma opts for swadeshi hair cut and roasted chana
New Delhi: Outgoing Parliamentary Affairs minister and senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj has said that she would tonsure her head, drape herself in white sari, sleep on the floor and eat only roasted grams to protest foreign-born Congress president Sonia Gandhi taking over as Prime Minister.

This transformation, according to Sushma, will take place on the day that Sonia takes oath. She is reported to have told reporters in Delhi that, "I will tonsure my head, put on white clothes, sleep on the floor and eat only roasted grams."
