New Delhi: The Congress party has been invited by President A P J Kalam to meet him again today with letters of support from its pre-poll allies.

With Sonia Gandhi stepping down as the Prime Ministerial candidate, Congress workers across the country reacted adversely to the news. From Jammu to Hyderabad and Bangalore, workers took to the streets and demonstrations are expected to continue today. Sonia will give her final decision today.

New Delhi: NDA convenor and old time socialist leader George Fernandes has said that it will not boycott the swearing-in ceremony of the Congress-led coalition government if AICC President Sonia Gandhi does not become the Prime Minister. He made this statement after a meeting of the alliance at the outgoing Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's residence today.

When Samajawadis shun food and begin to hurt…
New Delhi: According to the Samajwadi Party, it has been "insulted" by the Congress, which has not consulted it on the formation of the government. According to their intrepid spokesman, Amar Singh, nobody from the alliance has talked to them, other than comrade Surjeet and the CPM.

He has complained that the Congress did not acknowledge the SP support even when he had landed up for Sonia's dinner, which reports have suggested was without invitation. He clarified that he had gone there on the suggestion of comrade Surjeet. He also clarified that he did not eat anything there.

Input output norms notified for 20 export items
New Delhi: THE Directorate-General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has notified standard input output norms for 20 new export items. Out of the 20 new norms, 16 norms relate to chemical and allied products, and one each to engineering products, plastic products, textile products and miscellaneous products. An official release said that fixation of these norms would facilitate issuance of advance licences to the exporters of the 20 items without any need for referring the same to the DGFT headquarters on repeat basis. The DGFT has also made corrections/amendments/deletions in the norms for 20 existing products.
