OPUS
billing services for Vodafone
Bangalore: OPUS Advance Business Solutions have
announced that it has entered into a strategic alliance
with Vodafone Information Systems to offer transaction
based billing services around the latter's carrier-grade
billing product BILLIT.
BILLIT would be targeted at telecom service providers
and utility companies. OPUS is targeting revenue of $2-3
million through this alliance in the current year.

Porsche
to have two distributors in India
Mumbai: German sports car maker, Porsche, has appointed
two distributors in India to sell its products in the
domestic market. Shreyans Motors will host the Porsche
Centre in Mumbai while Exclusive Motors will do the same
in New Delhi. The decision to formally enter India has
been driven by demand for Porsche's new SUV, the `Cayenne'.
Both the appointed distributors will also supply customers
with sports cars from the Porsche range.

Canon
expanding retail outlets
Bangalore: Canon India Pvt Ltd, a leading complete
digital imaging company, has announced new distribution
plans aimed at bringing digital imaging solutions directly
to consumers through retail stores. It launched its first
Canon Retail Station in Bangalore and the 18th in the
country. It plans to open 1,000 such stores across the
country. Canon is already present in 70 towns across the
Southern region through its network of 60 retails points
and 29 service centres.

Motors launches Tavera
New Delhi: General Motors has announced the launch
of its multi-utility vehicle (MUV), Chevrolet Tavera in
the Indian market.
The entry-level model of the 10-seater vehicle, which
is based on the platform of the Isuzu Panther, has been
priced at a competitive Rs 5.44 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
The car has been launched with six variants, with the
most expensive one priced at Rs 8.45 lakh.
The
vehicle currently has a localisation level of 85 per cent,
which will be increased to 93 per cent by end of 2004.
The MUV is equipped with a 2.5 litre turbo diesel engine,
which has been developed at Hindustan Motors plant at
Pithampur. As an introductory offer, the company is offering
a warranty offer on the engine for five years or 150,000
km to its consumers. The MUV segment in India is estimated
to be at about 94,000 units this year.

Sandoz
opens third plant in India
Mumbai: Sandoz, the second largest supplier of
generics medicines in the world, has opened its third
plant in India at Kalwe, Navi Mumbai. Built at a cost
of $13 million (Rs 59 crore), the Kalwe facility is part
of Sandoz's $80-million (Rs 365 crore) global expansion
of its production network - with three new plants this
month in Poland, India and Romania. The new plant in India
would largely support supplies to US.
Sandoz is the generics arm of Swiss pharma multinational,
Novartis AG. The US is the world's largest generics market
and contributes 38 per cent of Sandoz's total sales of
$2.9 billion clocked in 2003. Europe accounts for 44 per
cent of the company's worldwide sales. America, without
the US, accounts for about five per cent for sales and
other markets contribute about 13 per cent of total sales.
Headquartered in Vienna (Austria), the company employs
13,000 people worldwide.

Mercedes: Trial run with bio diesel
over
Pune: The first phase of the cross-country drive
by Daimler Chrysler India Ltd (DCIL) with their Mercedes
using the bio-diesel generated from Jatropha plant, has
successfully completed its trial run of 5,900 km. The
drive involved running of the Mercedes Benz C class car
on biodiesel over terrains, which includes the Western
Ghats, coastal areas of Southern ndia,through the deserts
of Rajasthan and past the plains of Gujarat. The vehicles
had given a mileage of 13.5 km to a litre in the city
limits and about 15 km to a litre in the rest of the regions.

Tata
Tele signs MoU with China Unicom
Mumbai: Tata Teleservices has signed a memorandum
of understanding with China Unicom for joint development
of applications on the CDMA technology platform. But immediately
the two companies would offer international roaming services
on each others CDMA networks, said a news release from
TTSL.
The applications jointly developed by the players would
deliver more and more value-added services to the subscribers
of both the telecom operators who would come out with
innovative offers from time to time as well, said the
news release. While TTSL is a pure CDMA player, China
Unicom offers both CDMA and GSM services.

Jindal
Stainless to export 50,000 tonnes steel to China
New Delhi: Domestic stainless steel manufacturer
Jindal Stainless Ltd is all set to increase its exports
to China by another 50,000 tonnes during fiscal 2004-05
valued approximately at $60 million.
Jindal Stainless will supply 50,000 tonnes of stainless
steel to the Chinese canalising company over a period
of 12 months, which may be renewed with mutual consent.

Daimler
Chrysler to launch new models
Pune: Variants from the C Class of Mercedes Benz,
which includes the CLK (coupe in the C Class segment)
and SLK (small roadster that has been launched in Germany
this year) are expected to make their presence on the
Indian roads by the end of the current calendar year.
Hans Michael Huber, Managing Director and Chief Executive
Officer of Daimler Chrysler India Ltd, has said that other
than these offerings, variants in the M Class, luxury
coaches and heavy duty trucks in the commercial vehicle
segment would also be making its way into the Indian market
at a later date.
With the launch of the new E 270 CDI (common-rail direct
injection engines), the earlier version, E 220 CDI has
already been phased out. The production of the E 220 CDI
had been completely stopped at its Pune facility about
six weeks ago and E 270 CDI was being produced in its
place. Priced at Rs 35.46 lakh, the target for the vehicle
sales is about 350 for the current calendar year.
