US
defers decision on shrimps tangle
Washington: The US Commerce Department has delayed
a decision on imposing penalty tariffs on imports of shrimp
from Southeast Asia and South America till July, because
of the complicated nature of the case. US shrimp producers
contend that they are being driven out of business by
unfair foreign competition and have asked the government
to impose anti-dumping duties.
The
department said that it would make a preliminary determination
on shrimp imported from China and Vietnam on July 6 and
that it would issue a preliminary determination on shrimp
imported from Brazil, Ecuador, India and Thailand on July
29.
