to invest Rs 900 crore for modernisation
New Delhi: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL)
is investing Rs 900 crore during the Tenth Plan period
(2002-2007) towards modernising its manufacturing plants,
according to an official release. Some of the investments
in this regard include an ultra modern blade shop at the
Haridwar plant to manufacture advanced turbine blades
for thermal sets with higher efficiency and also for facilities
at BHEL's Hyderabad plant for indigenisation of high-tech
buckets and nozzles of gas turbines to reduce dependence
on foreign sources.

HCL Info makes a splash in consumer
electronics
New Delhi: HCL Infosystems Ltd has unveiled products
such as 42-inch plasma TV, MP3 players, and digital cameras
(three models), along with the launch of its integrated
digital entertainment systems. While the plasma TV will
be priced at around Rs 2 lakh, the MP3 players will be
available between Rs 1,100 and Rs 14,500.
The digital cameras would be available from Rs 1,200 to
Rs 12,000, HCL officials said. Targeting the high-end
segment, HCL has launched an integrated digital entertainment
system in partnership with Microsoft and Intel. The digital
entertainment system is priced at Rs 99,990 and comes
with a one-year comprehensive warranty.

Sasken ties up with e-SIM for its
mobile software
Bangalore: Sasken has announced an agreement with
e-SIM, a provider of man-machine interface (MMI) solutions
for wireless platforms, to offer pre-integrated and market-tested
MMI solutions bundled with Sasken's mobile software. Sasken's
solutions include 2G, 2.5G, 3G wireless protocol stacks
and a portfolio of wireless applications, including Strawberra,
its multimedia technology, said a company release.

Prudential opts for Mind Share
Mumbai: ICICI Prudential Life Insurance, the country's
leading private life insurer, has moved its Rs 20-crore
media planning and buying account to Mind Share. The new
agency will handle TV, print, cinema, radio and other
mass media buying for ICICI Prudential. The account was
earlier handled by Initiative Media. The appointment of
the new agency follows ICICI Prudential's regular agency
review process. Its creative agency remains Lowe.

Visakhapatnam: Godfrey Phillips India Limited has
launched its imported cigars here. The company said that
the GPI had joined hands with the US company, Altadis,
the world's leading cigar maker with over fifty brands,
to import and sell cigars suited to the Indian market.
