Inflation touches 5.02 per cent
New Delhi: Inflation crossed the 5 per cent mark after 11 weeks to settle at 5.02 per cent for the week ended May 22 because of a steep 9 per cent rise in the prices of vegetables and a moderate hike in the prices of other commodities like wheat, eggs and sugar.

Drop in foodgrain output seen
Mumbai: The government has scaled down the estimate of foodgrain production in 2003-04 to 210.78 million tonnes from 212.2 million tonnes projected in February.

The drop is largely a result of the lowering of the wheat output estimate from 76.12 million tonnes to 72.74 million tonnes.
