India will not allow market access to take preference
New
Delhi: Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath has
asserted that India has limited flexibility in the area
of farm market access in order to protect the interest
of the rural sector.
During a bilateral meeting with Brazilian Foreign Minister
Celso Amrom, Kamal Nath said any framework for agriculture
negotiations at WTO should adequately address the concerns
of member countries on the three pillars of the talks
-- elimination of export subsidies, phasing out of domestic
support and market access and that market access alone
should not be allowed to overtake the other two pillars,
which were of vital concern to developing countries.
