Man Industries gets approval from Shell
Mumbai: Man Industries India Ltd has obtained approval from Shell Global Systems International B.V. of the Netherlands as a potential manufacturer and supplier of critical service line pipes to worldwide projects of Shell.

The company is setting up a Rs 135-crore greenfield project of SAW pipes and coating complex at Anjar in the Kutch region of Gujarat, primarily for the export market. The site is located 30 km from the ports of Mundra and Kandla. Man Industries has informed the BSE that approval from Shell and other international majors will enable the company to bid for large projects internationally.

IndusInd Telecom to pick up stake in Hutchison Max
Mumbai: Indusind Telecom Network Ltd, a subsidiary of Hinduja TMT Ltd (HTMT), is likely to be allotted 5.11 per cent equity holding in the consolidated entity of Hutchison Max Telecom Ltd (HMTL). On Monday, HMTL had announced that it has filed with the FIPB an application for the Hutchison Essar Telecom group of companies to consolidate its various telecom interests in India under a single entity.

VSNL ties up with Tata Teleservices
Mumbai: Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL) has tied up with Tata Teleservices to offer STD / ISD prepaid calling cards under the brand name `Hello Duniya.' Hello Duniya calling cards will enable customers to make STD and ISD calls from any Tata Indicom mobile, fixed wireline, fixed wireless or payphone across all Tata Teleservices circles without having to activate the facility on the telephone. These cards will be available in denominations of Rs 540 and Rs 1,080, and will allow calls to the US, Canada, the UK and select countries in Asia.

Shasun and Eastman Chemical tie-up
Chennai: Shasun Chemicals & Drugs have signed an agreement with Eastman Chemical Company, US, to collaborate on the development and manufacture of performance chemicals for the pharmaceutical industry. The agreement is like an umbrella tie-up that would subsequently give rise to pacts to deal with individual products. The companies have already short listed two products for collaboration.

Ashok Leyland targets $100 million in exports
Kolkata: Heavy commercial vehicles major Ashok Leyland Ltd hopes to register an export earning of $100 million in the current fiscal. In 2003-04, the company earned an export income of $60 million. The jump in exports would be spurred by the reconstruction initiatives in Iraq, which was all set to emerge as a major export destination for the company's product offerings. Already, Ashok Leyland accounts for 60 per cent of the sales of buses in West Asia. The company's heavy commercial vehicle manufacturing capacity would be augmented to 67,000 units in the current fiscal and further to 75,000 units in the following year.

BPL Mobile launches Caller Ring Back Tone
Mumbai: BPL Mobile, for instance, launched its caller ring back tone (CRBT) as part of its basket of Value Added Services products in Mumbai. The new CRBT service has initially been rolled out in Mumbai and within the next 2-3 months, the service provider would introduce this service across India, according to the company.

The CRBT feature replaces standard ring back tones with any tones the subscriber chooses. This could include sound effects, jokes, personal voice and music clips. The service is being offered at a monthly subscription of Rs 49 per month with three ring back tones or monthly subscription at Rs 25 per month with one ring back tone. The service provider would charge Rs 15 for change of the RBT.

Infosys and Cognizant in Top Five league
Chennai: Infosys and Cognizant Technology Solutions have emerged among the top five services companies globally after Accenture, IBM and Computer Sciences Corporation, the BusinessWeek magazine said in its latest InfoTech 100 scoreboard. Other players ranked in the scoreboard include Wipro, ADP, Unisys, First Data and ACS.

In the overall ranking, for companies that have a strong India presence, Accenture ranked 9, IBM 10, Infosys 27, CSC 30, Cognizant 37 and Wipro 62, the magazine said. To qualify, companies had to have revenues of at least $300 million. The companies were ranked on four criteria: Shareholder return, return on equity, and revenue growth (which were given equal weight), and total revenues (which was given 1.5 times the weighting of the other categories).

IBM opens Linux competency centre in Bangalore
Bangalore: IBM has unveiled its Linux Centre of Competency in Bangalore, which will help IBM clients from the industry, academia and Government, to move to computing environments based on open standards. The Linux Centre of Competency provides facilities, support and consulting services to test, develop and drive Linux application and for solution development. It also will provide Linux product and solution certification, according to an IBM press release.

Midas merges with Banyan
Chennai: Midas Communications and Banyan Networks Ltd, both part of Telecom and Networks Group (TeNeT) at IIT Madras, are to be merged. While Midas focuses on designing telecom systems with emphasis on wireless technology, its sister firm, Banyan Networks, works in convergent areas of telecom and computer networking.

Tejas and ITI tie up
Bangalore: Optical networking products company Tejas Networks has announced that it has signed up a technical collaboration agreement with the state-owned ITI Ltd for its TJ100 series of next generation SDH (synchronous digital hierarchy) products. The tie-up encompasses a combination of transfer of technology from Tejas to ITI in phases for manufacturing optical networking products and marketing of the same.

The optical networking products from Tejas enable telecom carriers to build converged networks that support traditional voice-based services as well as the new data-denominated services.
Tejas, which clocked revenues of Rs 30 crore last year, expects a significant jump in earnings, which are likely to exceed Rs 100 crore this year.

Third branch for Daks in Mumbai
Mumbai: DAKS, the British apparel brand, has opened a new store at the Inorbit Mall, Malad. It offers the complete Daks clothing range for women and men, including golf wear. This is its third store in Mumbai. According to the company there are more Daks stores planned in Mumbai, Bangalore and Kolkata in the coming months.
