Rs 407 crore Libyan order for Welspun Gujarat
Mumbai: Submerged arc-welded (SAW) pipes manufacturer, Welspun Gujarat Stahl Rohren, has said that it has bagged an export order worth Rs 407 crore for supplying pipes to the El Sharara-Mellitah onshore pipeline in Libya. Export orders would be worth roughly Rs 550 crore out of the total Rs 750-crore-worth orders held by the company, a senior company official said.

Welspun would have to supply 30-inch pipes of 400 km length of 14.30 mm and 11.30 mm thickness, by January 2005. The order was placed by the AGIP Oil Company Ltd, a news release said.

Busy year ahead for Engineers India
New Delhi: Engineers India Ltd (EIL) is planning to enter the Bharti Enterprises-Changi Airport consortium for bidding to develop the Delhi and Mumbai airports. EIL, in consortium with CPG Singapore, has already won the contract for designing the international terminal at Ahmedabad airport.

The company has also tied up with Airports Authority of India and is likely to secure an assignment relating to feasibility study for the Pune-Chakan airport of Maharashtra Industrial Development Corp (MIDC).

EIL is also bidding with IOC for revamp of two refineries in Iran and one each in Sudan, Libya and Nigeria. It is also considering setting up a joint venture company in Algeria for providing engineering consultancy services as well as taking up projects on a turnkey basis. EIL says that it has secured overseas business worth $27.13 million in 2003-04.

BHEL bags 330 MW CCP project at Dholpur
Madurai: Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has secured an order valued at Rs 501 crore from Rajasthan Utpadan Vidyut Nigam Ltd (RUVNL) to set up a 330 MW Combined Cycle Power (CCP) project at Dholpur.

The order is for design, manufacture and supply of main component equipments for 330 MW combined cycle gas based power plant that include two gas turbines, two heat recovery steam generators and a steam turbine with associated auxiliaries.

Bio-diesel plant to come up at Kakinada
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad-based Naturol Bioenergy Ltd (NBL) proposes to set up a bio-diesel plant at Kakinada in a joint venture with Energea GmbH of Austria and Fe Clean Energy of USA.

The proposed plant with an installed capacity of 300 tonnes per day is estimated to cost Rs 135 crore. According to the state's Department of Rain Shadow Area Development and Bio-diesel, the project aims to bring 2 lakh hectares of wastelands in Anantapur, Kurnool, Chittoor, Cuddapah, Mahabubnagar, Nalgonda and Rangareddy districts in the State under energy crops, particularly that of Jatropa.

Fe Clean Energy says that the company would be investing in three bio-energy projects in Asia with the project in India being the first one. The other two would be in Thailand and Philippines.

Ramco Industries to pay 75 per cent
Chennai: Ramco Industries has registered a profit after tax of Rs 24.19 crore (Rs 18.60 crore) in 2003-04, higher by 30.05 per cent in relation to the previous year's profit.

Ramco's board has also recommended a final dividend of 75 per cent on equity shares (face value of Rs 10), including the interim dividend of 25 per cent that was paid in December 2003.

RAMCO Industries Ltd plans to set up a fibre cement sheet plant in Kutch district, Gujarat at an investment of Rs 17 crore. The plant, will have a capacity of 72,000 tonnes a year, and will be commissioned before the end of this financial year. The company will also commission, during the year, a fibre cement sheet plant of 72,000 tonnes capacity in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. Once these two plants are commissioned, the company's asbestos fibre cement sheet capacity will go up to 4.77 lakh tonnes from the present 3.33 lakh tonnes.

Hutchison in pact with Nokia for network equipment
New Delhi: Essar-Hutchison has signed a deal with Nokia for the supply of GSM-based radio network to nine of Hutchison's 13 telecom circles.Under the agreement, Nokia will deploy switching equipment and high-capacity GSM radio networks to enhance Hutchison's existing GSM networks in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and the city of Chennai.

Nokia will also supply GSM radio networks to Hutchison's new circles in West Bengal and western Uttar Pradesh. Switching equipment for West Bengal is part of the deal as well. Nokia will continue supplying to Hutchison complete GSM network systems in Gujarat, as well as GSM radio networks in Rajasthan, Haryana, and eastern Uttar Pradesh. The equipment Nokia is supplying is upgradeable to EDGE to support high-speed data applications, a release said.

Acer unit sales up 200 per cent
New Delhi: Acer sold 32,585 units of personal computers (PC) and held the fourth position in overall unit sales in the first quarter of 2004, according to the latest International Data Corporation (IDC) data.

According to an Acer release, the company has grown over 200 per cent in Q1 2004 compared to the previous quarter. Year-on-year, Acer has shown 70 per cent growth in Q1 2004, compared to Q1 2003. The sales include laptops, desktops and servers.

Mumbai: Rediff.com India has launched Rediffmail 1GB, an enhanced version of its e-mail facility with a storage space of one gigabyte to all its free e-mail users along with a hike in the mail attachment facility to size of 10 MB.

Rs 80 crore order for BHEL from Oman
New Delhi: Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has bagged a Rs 80 crore export order from Petroleum Development Oman which entails the supply of a gas compressor package to be set up at Lekhwair, 450 km from Muscat, a BHEL release said.

The package, which is to be delivered by October 2005, would be manufactured and supplied by BHEL's Hyderabad plant.

Petroleum Development Oman is a joint venture company of Government of Oman, Royal Dutch Shell Group, Tota and Partex.
