Tatas
to develop properties in Gwalior and Kovalam
New Delhi: The Tatas have said they would develop
two hotels in Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh and Kovalam in
Kerala by the year-end and plan to take the Taj brand
to gateway cities of the world.
The
Tatas are also planning to either develop or acquire existing
properties in countries like the US, China, North America
and ASEAN nations. While
in Gwalior, the Tata group company will acquire a palace
to turn it into a Taj hotel, it will develop a property
from scratch in Kovalam.

Alembic
splits operations into Strategic Business Units
Baroda:
Pharma major Alembic Ltd has concluded its internal restructuring
and has separated the company's business operations into
three Strategic Buisness Units -- Formulations, Alembic
API and Contract Research under BioArc Research Solutions.
With formulations being identified as the growth pusher,
the company has further organised formulations under domestic
division, comprising branded ethical, OTC and veterinary
branded divisions, and international division.
Alembic said that the focused marketing approach will
bring about product synergy as it is not only brand-oriented
but also customer-centric. The company has over 100 brands
in various segments, like anti-bacterials, cough and cold,
NSAIDs (pain management), nutraceuticals, anti-diabetics,
gastroenterology, cardio-vascular, women's healthcare
among others.

Unilever
to make Hindustan Lever a global hub
Mumbai:
FMCG giant Unilever is looking at greater off-take
from its Indian subsidiary Hindustan Lever Ltd to leverage
certain "factor advantages" as well as low production
cost benefits, especially for home and personal care (HPC)
products and tea.
HLL said that it believes that the company and India,
as a country, have certain factor advantages, which should
be leveraged to make the company and the country a global
sourcing hub for Unilever.
In HPC, HLL exports a diverse range, including soaps,
skin care and oral care products, to different Unilever
companies. The brands include Lux, Lifebuoy, Pears, Fair
& Lovely, Close-up, Pepsodent. In fact, HLL is the
only source on Pears soap across the world.
Unilever
companies in the Middle East, Russia and the CIS nations
source tea from HLL and in the last 18 months, HLL has
also become a sourcing partner to those in Japan, China,
Australia, the US, Canada, Malaysia, Thailand, Phillippines
and Vietnam.
The tea exports portfolio includes Brooke Bond, Brooke
Bond Red Label and Taj Mahal, Lipton, Lipton Yellow Label,
Lipton Green Label, Lipton Brisk and also Instant Tea.
HLL has a dedicated sourcing base for tea exports, comprising
factories in Pune, Kochi, Etah and Kolkata.
In
marine products, the company's export basket offers a
comprehensive portfolio, ranging from Surimi, crabsticks
to shrimps and several value-added products. The company
exports these to Japan, southeast Asia, Europe and the
US. In addition, HLL has also become a part of Unilever's
supply chain in seafoods for Europe. In rice, HLL exports
basmati to the US, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand,
Middle East. The brands are Gold Seal Indus Valley, Rozana
and Annapurna.

Apple
and Padmalaya set up Digital Media Training Centres
Hyderabad: Apple Computer International Ltd and
Hyderabad-based Padmalaya Telefilms Ltd have come together
to establish Padmalaya-ZICA Apple authorised centre for
digital media training. The digital media centre aims
to bridge the gap between demand and supply of qualified
technicians - a problem that is quite common in the TV,
film and broadcasting industry.
This training facility, meant for both amateurs and professionals,
will be located in Hyderabad, Mumbai and Kolkatta. It
may be introduced in other centres later on. Padmalaya,
in business relationship with the Zee Group, plans to
offer a bouquet of training products required for the
entertainment and media industry, individually and jointly.

Xansa
ties up with BT
New Delhi: IT services company Xansa is building
a potential capacity for 10,000 seats in India within
its established technology centres in Chennai, Delhi and
Pune. It has inked a contract with telecom services major
BT for using its customer relationship management (CRM)
solution - Agile Contact Central. "Under a five-year
contract, BT will provide Xansa with a bespoke implementation
of Agile Contact Central, part of BT's suite of Siebel-based
Contact Central CRM solutions, and multimedia voice over
IP connectivity services.
Hosted in the UK, the service desks will support Xansa's
operations in India and the UK via a functionally rich,
fully end-to-end managed service," according to a
BT statement announcing the agreement between the two
companies. Xansa is an international business process
and IT services company with over 6,000 people in the
UK and India.

MTNL
launches new leased line services
New Delhi: Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL)
has launched new leased line services for port speeds
ranging from 64 kpbs to two mbps. The
services launched on June 15, has new 1:1 (full bandwidth)
and 1:2 (compressed) under port speeds 64 kpbs, 128 kpbs,
256 kpbs, 512 kpbs and one mbps and two mpbs.
MTNL
has retained its existing 1:4 (compressed) offering under
all slabs, except that under 64 kpbs where it has been
scrapped.
For
64 and 128 kpbs, MTNL is levying installation charges
of Rs 2,000 and Rs 20,000 as registration charges, while
that for 256 and 512 kpbs is Rs 5,000 and Rs 40,000 and
that of one mbps and two mbps is Rs 10,000 and Rs 50,000.
The annual tariffs range from Rs 1.25 lakh to Rs 20 lakh
under various port speeds.
