L&T gets Rs 95 crore order from China
Mumbai:
Larsen
& Toubro has won a contract for coal gasification
equipment from China valued at Rs 95 crore. With an earlier
contract worth Rs 105 crore, L&T now has contracts
for fuel extraction systems worth Rs 200 crore, said a
news release from the company.
One contract is for the Zhong Yuan methanol project of
400,000 tonne-per annum in Henan province in Central China,
and the other is for the Yuntianhua group for its 500,000
tpa ammonia project in Yunnan province in South China.
The technology for these contracts is from Shell, (the
Netherlands).

Tata Steel to be 15 million tonne company
by 2010
Mumbai:
Tata Steel intends to be a 15-million tonne steel company
by 2010. With the expansion plan already under way, the
company's saleable steel capacity will increase to about
5 million tonnes in 2005-06. Plans are being drawn to
further enhance the capacity by another 2.5 million tonnes
in Jamshedpur. Up for approval at the company's AGM next
month is a proposal to raise its authorised share capital
from Rs 690 crore to Rs 850 crore, being done to facilitate
the capitalisation of its securities premium account to
the extent of issue of bonus shares.

Virus attack at Infosys
Bangalore:
India's largest listed computer software company Infosys
witnessed a severe virus attack at its Bangalore campus
this morning bringing down operations to a standstill
for a couple of hours. The virus attack led to work like
server connection to clients, accessing data and documents
getting affected. Infosys employs 8,000 workers in the
Bangalore campus. As a preventive measure to prevent the
virus from spreading, the company brought down the network.

CESC posts
Rs 70 crore pre-tax profit
Kolkata: CESC Ltd has declared a Rs 92.9-crore
profit before tax and special appropriation for 2003-04
compared with Rs 7.62 crore in the previous year. A CESC
spokesman said that lower interest and personnel costs,
lower power purchase volume, higher plant load factor
and lower transmission and distribution costs were the
main reasons for the improved profit. After making various
adjustments, CESC's profit has been placed at Rs 70.55
crore, against a Rs 5.23-crore loss made in 2002-03.
No dividend has been recommended.

Indian
Hume Pipe total dividend at 250 per cent
Mumbai: Indian Hume Pipe Co Ltd, engaged in execution
of water supply schemes and pipe-laying projects, has
reported a 337 per cent increase in its net profit, which
touched Rs 50.75 crore last fiscal from Rs 11.60 crore
in the previous fiscal. The board of directors of the
company has declared a final dividend of 50 per cent.
Together with the interim dividend of 200 per cent paid
earlier, the total dividend for the year is 250 per cent.
The company has also decided to split the nominal face
value of equity share from Rs 100 per share to Rs 10 per
share, subject to the shareholders approval.

D-Link
to pay 40 per cent dividend
Mumbai: The board of directors of D-Link India
Ltd has recommended a final dividend of 40 per cent. The
company posted a net profit of Rs 31.3 crore for the year-ended
March 31, 2004 as against a net profit of Rs 22.1 crore
(March 31, 2003). Total income (net of excise) has increased
to Rs 228.10 crore (Rs 192.10 crore) during the year-ended
March 31, 2004.

Opto
Circuits announces 30 per cent dividend
Bangalore: Sensors-maker Opto Circuits Ltd said
its net profit for the financial year 2003-04 leapt 76
per cent to Rs 13.02 crore and revenue increased to Rs.
58.52 crore, up by 54 per cent. The company has announced
a 30 per cent dividend and bonus of three shares for every
10 fully paid-up equity shares.

Bangalore: Intel has announced the launch of a
Xeon processor-based platform and a number of products
and technologies for the Xeon family that offer better
performance, memory and graphics capabilities for workstation
platforms. Intel said that the workstations would benefit
from the technologies that address the increasingly data-hungry
systems and software applications that need performance.
The Intel processor-based workstation platform, which
features an advanced Intel Xeon processor with more powerful
chipset, boosts performance by up to 30 per cent over
previous generations.

Philips
launches Heart Start
Mumbai: Philips Medical Systems (PMS) has rolled
out HeartStart, an automated external defibrillator, at
a price of about Rs 2 lakh. The product helps the heart
get back its regular systemic rhythm. Company officials
vouched for the safety of the product and said that there
was no possibility that excessive shock would be given
to a patient. The device guides the user through voice
commands and advices against giving a shock to the patient,
if not required. Doctors say that sudden cardiac arrest
is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, where
the heart is seen to have an uncoordinated fast rhythm.
