Tata Motors launches new Sumo version

Delhi: Tata
Motors has said that it would spend over Rs 800 crore
in the current fiscal towards product development and
capacity expansion. Tata Motors has also launched a new
version of its Sumo vehicle.
The 1.95-litre Sumo Victa model is priced between Rs 4.88
lakh and Rs 5.87 lakh. The new Sumo comes with a new look
front grill, headlamps, fog lamps and bumper. There are
changes in the interiors as well in the instrument panel
and new leather wrapped steering wheel. Tata Motors sold
about 28,000 units of the Sumo last year and expects the
new version to help boost sales by 15 per cent this year.

TRAI: 6-month validity for all tariff
plans mandatory

Delhi: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has
made it mandatory for operators to put a six-month validity
period on all tariff plans. This means that if a subscriber
takes a tariff plan today, the operator cannot bring about
any increase in the tariff package for the next six months.
However, operator would be free to reduce the tariff at
any point. The subscribers shall be free to choose any
other tariff plan, even during the said six months period.
The service providers are also mandated to accept and
implement all requests for change of plan immediately
or from the start of next billing cycle. TRAI has left
out promotional schemes from the directive.

Reliance acquires NIS Sparta

Delhi: Reliance
Industries Ltd has bought out management consultancy firm
NIS Sparta for an undisclosed amount. The move comes after
Reliance identified synergy with NIS Sparta in view of
its own commitment to the retail, telecom, petroleum and
other sectors, a press statement said. V.V. Bhatt, Group
President (Management Services), Reliance Industries Ltd,
will be the new chairman of NIS while Sanjeev Duggal continues
as the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director.
Post acquisition, the Reliance-NIS Academy is being launched
with dedicated staff engaged in conjunction with the Reliance
line of business. The Academy will establish 110 centres
to commence training for Reliance's customer services
team. NIS has deployed corporate learning solutions for
more than 7.5 lakh professionals in over 550 organisations
across five continents in seven languages. The company's
client list includes Maruti Udyog, Coca Cola and Microsoft.
The company offers solutions in the areas of sales maximisation,
customer relationship management, process consultancy
and content development.

Hyundai: January - June growth up
40 per cent
Chennai:
Hyundai
Motor India Ltd sold 17,889 cars in June, a 39 per cent
increase over the 12,843 cars it sold in June 2003.
During June, the company sold 12,195 cars in the domestic
market and exports accounted for 5,694 units. It sold
15,456 units of the Santro Xing, 1,602 units of the Accent,
701 units of the Elantra, 83 units of Sonata and 45 units
of the Terracan. In June 2003, Santro Xing accounted for
9,672 units. For the January-June period, Hyundai Motor
India sold 91,356 units, a 40 per cent growth over the
65,307 units sold in the same period last year.

Eicher CV sales up 20 pc in Q1

Delhi: Eicher
Motor Ltd has recorded a 20 per cent growth in the sales
of its commercial vehicles during the first quarter of
the current fiscal with sales of 3,657 vehicles as against
3,059 in the corresponding period last year. Sales during
the month of June 2004 at 1,506 vehicles is 12 per cent
higher than the sales in June 2003 which was at 1,344
vehicles.
