Tax
evasion trial of Yukos boss resumes
Moscow: Mikhail Khodorovsky, head of Russia's biggest
oil company, Yukos, has resumed his trial for tax evasion
to the tune of US$ 7 billion.Within
Russia, there's little support for new billionaires like
Khodorovsky who are considered robber barons by the millions
who are struggling to make ends meet. But this political
battle between Putin and Khodorovsky can affect oil prices
across the world. Russia's stock market is watching nervously.
Putin says he's committed to saving Yukos. But officials
haven't responded to Khodorovsky's offer to give up his
stake in Yukos in exchange for a settlement.
