Infosys scrip braves brokers' boycott
Mumbai: The BSE Sensex shed 45 points to close at 4899 points, down from its previous closing of 4944 points while the Nifty, ended lower by 17 points, to close at 1539.30.

Brokers meet FM
New Delhi: Representatives of the broking community who met the Finance Minister P.Chidambaram on Tuesday suggested that the burden of taxation on the different players in the capital market should be commensurate with their incomes. Besides making recommendations on the rates, applicability of tax on different market players, the broking community also expressed keenness that the effect of taxation between the buyer and the seller should be equitable. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) Chairman, G.N. Bajpai, told presspersons that the Finance Minister would have to take a view on the matter after considering the suggestions of the different market players. The SEBI Chief had also met the Finance Minister on Tuesday morning on the same issue.

Day traders' strike: Infosys Q1 result plays spoilsport
Mumbai: With a section of the day traders refraining from active trading the trading volumes were affected only marginally at the stock exchanges The response to the strike was lukewarm, as the Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram had already stated that he was open to review the transaction tax. The good financial results announced by Infosys Technologies also would have taken the wind out of the striker's sails.
