Markets: Tax review and quarterly's maintain the momentum
Mumbai: The Sensex ended the day at 4975.40, up 24 points from its previous close of 4951.7. The S&P CNX Nifty was up 13 points, closing at 1571.60, as against its previous close of 1558.80 points.

Transaction Tax: Chidambaram will 'revisit the numbers'
New Delhi: The Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram, has said that he would be "revisiting the numbers" with regard to the 0.15 per cent transaction tax on securities, as proposed in the Union Budget, though he did not commit himself to an outright withdrawal of tax. He maintained that transaction tax was neat, easy and eliminated tax avoidance. The minister was intervening during the discussion on the Budget in the Rajya Sabha.

Margins: SEBI may offer choice of payment
Mumbai: The Securities and Exchange Board of India may offer a choice of payment of market margin/settlements either before or during trading, the next day with the proviso that if payment were not made before trading the next day, higher initial margin would be collected from the members. In order to align the collateral requirements in the cash market and the derivative market, the SEBI has decided that units of money market mutual funds and units of gilt funds may be accepted towards cash equivalent component of the liquid assets of a clearing member.

Tata Consultancy Services files prospectus for IPO
Mumbai: Software major Tata Consultancy Services, which filed an Initial Public Offer (IPO) prospectus with Registrar of Companies (RoC) today, has fixed its price band for the bidding between Rs 775-900 per share. The issue will open on July 29, 2004, and close on August 5. The Tata group company is to offer 5.54 crore equity shares of Re one each, with a greenshoe option.

The issue consists of a fresh issue of 2.27 crore shares and an offer-for-sale of 3.26 crore by Tata Sons Ltd and certain other shareholders of TCS. The IPO would consist of 4.99 crore shares which includes 2.99 crore to Qualified Institutional Bidders (QIB), 74.86 lakh to non-institutional bidders (high networth individuals) and 12.47 lakh to retail bidders, according to the draft prospectus filed with SEBI. The company has reserved 55.45 lakh shares for employees of TCS Division, TCS Ltd and Tata Sons.
