Anil Kakodkar is G M Modi award recipient
New Delhi:
Distinguished scientist and Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Dr Anil Kakodkar has received the Gujar Mal Modi Innovative Science and Technology Award 2004 for his contributions to India's nuclear programme.

Kakodkar was a member of the team that conducted the country's first nuclear explosion on May 18, 1974 and followed it up with a series of successful nuclear tests at Pokhran in May 1998.

Kakodkar, who is the first scientist to receive the award in the field of nuclear energy, said there was a need to develop technologies, which can compete with that of other countries.

Narayana gets Toshniwal medal for work at NGRI
Hyderabad: S. Narayana, Scientist at the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), here has won the 15th IETE Hari Ramji Toshniwal gold medal, instituted by the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunications Engineers (IETE), New Delhi.

The award is in recognition of his contribution in the design and development of electronic instruments for geophysical and related systems during the past 10 years. The medal will be presented to him at the annual convention of the IETE on September 25 at Ahmedabad, according to a press release from the NGRI.

Punit Sood joins MphasiS
Bangalore: MphasiS has announced the appointment of Punit Sood as President, IT Services. Punit Sood will be responsible for heading MphasiS' global IT Services business, and for driving the growth in that business area, said a company press release. Sood joins MphasiS from Capital One's India Liaison Office where he was Chief Operating Officer.
