Markets: Modest creep upwards
Mumbai: The Sensex staged a late recovery to settle higher by 21.17 points (or 0.42 per cent) and closed at 5088.56 points. The S&P CNX Nifty also closed on a positive note appreciating 4.1 points (or 0.26 per cent).

At Rs.67, 000 crore capitalisation TCS is numero uno
Mumbai: Tata Consultancy Services made its debut on the two premier stock exchanges on Wednesday, closing around 16 per cent higher than the issue price of Rs.850 per share.

TCS closed at Rs.987.95 on the NSE and at Rs 987.50 on the BSE. At start of trade, the scrip quoted at Rs 1,198.7 on the NSE and at Rs 1,050 on the BSE.

The listing puts TCS among the top three in terms of market capitalisation in the country, with the total worth amounting to Rs.67, 000 crore.

RBI: Primary dealers in G-Secs to hold equity in demat
Mumbai: RBI has said that primary dealers in Government securities should hold all their equity investments only in the dematerialised form by the end of December 2004.

The RBI decided this in consultation with SEBI and advised primary dealers to convert all their equity holdings in scrip form to the dematerialised form by December 31, 2004. The dealers must make all fresh investments only in the dematerialised form from that date, said the release.
