Indian
publishers gear up for Pak market
New
Delhi: Indian publishers are gearing up to exhibit
their books in Lahore next year to strengthen business
ties, though roadblocks like piracy and restrictions on
export impede cooperation.
The
Delhi Book Fair saw the participation of 12 publishers
and 200 people from the book industry in Pakistan as also
several poets and artists. And the publishers from the
neighbouring country are happy about the "great response"
they have received.
An
eight-member working group was also formed to promote
book trade, co-publishing and sale and purchase of copyrights
between the publishers of the two countries.
The cooperation between the publishing industries of the
two countries got a boost exactly a year ago, with the
signing of an MoU on August 25, 2003 between the FIP and
the Pakistan Publishers and Booksellers Association (PPBA).
